about

Planet 9

Ethereal vocals and electrifying, virtuosic performances merge to create a new tapestry of sound in “Planet 9” - a sound sure to send listeners on a metaphysical journey - organic, hybrid, hypnotic.

Composed by Tomasz Bura and Rouhangeze Baichoo, “Planet 9” is an epic, modern jazz suite. From the very start, Laurence Cottle’s bass line - written in an odd time signature of 9/8 - haunts, beckons us into a trance.

The artists continue unfolding a universe of possibilities. They expand the palette and touch on hyperrealism.

The enchanting Rouhangeze deliberately injects the melody with intervals that correspond to the golden ratio. Her voice quiets us into a dream-like state of mind. Sky.

Midway, Tomasz Bura gives us a hybrid/electronic variation of the ostinato-bass melody. His exciting keyboard solo amps up the power.

Mark Mondesir plays the grandiose drum solo. His sound - innovative - leads us to a coda. The main loop brings us back. Earth.

The composition’s musical elements are designed to startle. And yet all this contrasting spontaneity and vibrancy - while stimulating the mind and awakening the senses - accomplishes its greater goal. It soothes the soul.

Tomasz Bura and Rouhangeze are supported by two of the UK’s finest - Laurence Cottle and Mark Mondesir.
